TASTING & FOOD NOTES

For us, “burgers” evoke memories of backyard barbeques, of sunshine and warm evenings, of good food and laughter with friends and family. The goal of this wine was to produce a fruit-laden and refreshing white that represents excellent value and one that would bring out the best in your burger. A challenging task since the perfect burger can be a very personal and unique creation. Consider the traditional elements: the acidity of pickle, the sweetness of relish and ketchup and the spice of BBQ sauce and mustard. Our final combination for Burger Blend Rosé is a fruity, light and crisp wine, with a touch of spice and a juicy finish that can be enjoyed alone or with your favourite summer backyard fare, burgers most certainly included! Respect your burger… serve it with Burger Blend!

WINEMAKING NOTES

The original 13th Street Burger Blend was produced in the late 90’s and was an eclectic mix of a wine which incorporated pretty much every red variety in the winery’s stables. Since not all burger eaters crave a glass of red, we are pleased to announce that we’ve created a Rosé blend specifically for pairing with burgers and burger-friendly occasions! All four varieties were fermented and aged in stainless steel to preserve the fresh fruit flavours and acidity that are so important to this blend. The grapes were macerated for 24-36 hours to extract the light colour and red berry flavours that characterize this wine.

VINTAGE NOTES

The winter of 2017/2018 was again mild, with an especially warm February, but a cool April with some snow and ice pushed bud-burst back for an average start to the growing season. Once the summer finally started it was hot and humid, with prolonged periods of extreme heat. Luckily rain started in September, perfect to refresh grapes destined for early picking such as Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Gamay for sparkling and Pinot Gris and Chardonnay for whites. Unfortunately the rain did not stop and there was some pressure to pick late ripening whites and early ripening reds before disease set in. Gamay, Pinot Noir, Riesling and Merlot had to be sorted in the vineyard and again on sorting tables in the winery to ensure only pristine bunch

2018 Gamay Vin Gris

Fruity aromas with notes of flowers, wild strawberries and raspberries.

$24.95

Out of stock

The aromas are fruity, with notes of flowers and wild strawberries and raspberries. The wine is fermented totally dry with flavours of sour cherries, lemon and herbs with bright acidity and almost no noticeable tannin.   Enjoy this wine lightly-chilled in its youth to fully express the fresh aromatics and lively flavours of this unique style of wine.

 WINEMAKING NOTES

From an early pick of our Whitty Vineyard in Creek Shores, our Vin Gris is the result of classic white wine-making techniques used on red grapes – full bunches put into the press, free run juice collected and a very soft pressing, resulting in just the faintest tint of pink. The wine was bottled in March 2019 following a light fining and filtration.

2018 Pink Palette

Aromas of strawberry and cherry with a hint of exotic spice and pepper.

$15.95

TASTING NOTES

This rosé made from Cabernet Franc has aromas of strawberry and cherry with a hint of exotic spice and pepper. It is just off-dry and deliciously fruity, yet mouth-watering and refreshing. This ultra-quaffable rosé is best served lightly chilled throughout the summer and warm fall months, but is equally delicious year round.

Made with early consumption in mind, consider serving this alongside pretty much any fish, shellfish, barbequed or smoked dishes, salads and even alongside fresh fruit and eggs for a delicious Sunday brunch. The lightness and fruitiness of this wine make it suitable for lightly spiced dishes too, which opens up the whole world of Asian and Mexican cuisine too.

WINEMAKING NOTES

The Cabernet Franc for our Pink Palette was harvested in early October when it had reached the perfect balance of phenolic ripeness and acidity. Roughly 24 hours of skin contact after crushing and destemming was permitted in order to secure the all-important pink hue and multitude of flavours trapped in the skins. This wine was 100% fermented and aged in stainless steel and bottled in April 2019.

NV Cuvée Rosé

Traditional method sparkling – hints of ripe berry, mineral, light spice & subtle anise …

$29.95

TASTING NOTES

Traditional method sparkling made from a blend of Chardonnay and  Pinot Noir.
The nose hints at ripe red berry, mineral, light spice and subtle anise. The mousse is creamy and fine, but the wine is dry and quite bracing with a long, fine finish of fruit skin, ripe stone fruit and light toast. Sparkling wines such as this, with their hint of sugar, bright acidity and carbon dioxide have all the necessary tools to age well for years. Although delicious and perfectly appropriate to drink this wine immediately, this wine will change and mellow through 2021.

Suitable as the perfect aperitif to serve friends and family on arrival at between 5 and 8°C. This wine will pair nicely with shellfish or poached fish in pink sauces, smoked salmon or tuna tartare, charcuterie plates or antipasti. Although not sweet enough to pair with dessert, try with high fat creamy fresh and bloomy rind cheeses such as Upper Canada ricotta drizzled with honey and topped with toasted, candied nuts. Will marry nicely with fresh strawberries in season drizzled with a little aged balsamic or topped with cracked pepper.
