WINEMAKING NOTES

The grapes for our Chardonnay 2017 come from our neighbor Lado Viscek’s vineyard located in the Creek Shores sub-appellation. They were harvested in late September and immediately full-cluster pressed, then fermented and aged in French oak barrels of a variety of sizes (225L, 400L and 500L) and a variety of ages, averaging 10% new oak. After rigorous tasting, Jean-Pierre Colas decided on the final blend and bottled the wine in early July 2018 following light fining and filtration.

The nose is fresh and lively with notes of pineapple, warm spice, toast and a touch of minerality.

$29.95

TASTING NOTES

Our 2017 Viscek Vineyard Chardonnay is bright, light gold in the glass. The nose is fresh and lively with notes of pineapple, warm spice, toast and a touch of minerality. On the palate it is medium-bodied with flavours of ripe apple and vanilla bean refreshed by bright acidity and a touch of tannin from the barrel fermentation. The finish is long with savoury flavours and a touch of lingering acidity.

Drink now at cool room temperature or hold for the short-to-medium term for added complexities. Pair with savoury dishes rich in cream or butter.

WINEMAKING NOTES

Our second vintage of Chardonnay from our neighbour Lado Viscek’s meticulously farmed vineyard! After careful hand-harvesting, the grapes were full-cluster pressed. No sorting was required as the grapes were in pristine condition. The must was then transferred to a mix of 228L, 400L and 500L French oak (1 new 228L, the rest seasoned) where it underwent alcoholic and full malolactic fermentation. Following this, the wine was kept in contact with its fine lees for 12 months prior to being transferred to stainless steel tanks for an additional 6 months of rest before bottling in January 2019, following light fining and filtration.

2018 Burger Blend Riesling / Pinot Grigio

A fruity, light and crisp white wine with a touch of spice.

$14.95

AVAILABLE AT THE LCBO

TASTING & FOOD NOTES

For us, “burgers” evoke memories of backyard barbeques, of sunshine and warm evenings, of good food and laughter with friends and family. The goal of this wine was to produce a fruit-laden and refreshing white that represents excellent value and one that would bring out the best in your burger. A challenging task since the perfect burger can be a very personal and unique creation. Consider the traditional elements: the acidity of pickle, the sweetness of relish and ketchup and the spice of BBQ sauce and mustard. Our final combination for Burger Blend Riesling Pinot Grigio is a fruity, light and crisp white wine with a touch of spice and a juicy finish that can be enjoyed alone or with your favourite summer backyard fare, burgers most certainly included! Respect your burger… serve it with Burger Blend!

WINEMAKING NOTES

The original 13th Street Burger Blend was produced in the late 90’s and was an eclectic mix of a wine which incorporated pretty much every red variety in the wineries stables. Since not all burger eaters crave a glass of red, we are pleased to announce that we’ve created a white blend specifically for pairing with burgers and burger-friendly occasions! Both varieties were fermented and aged in stainless steel to preserve the fresh fruit flavours and acidity that are so important to this blend!

VINTAGE NOTES

The winter of 2017/2018 was again mild, with an especially warm February, but a cool April with some snow and ice pushed bud-burst back for an average start to the growing season. Once the summer finally started it was hot and humid, with prolonged periods of extreme heat. Luckily rain started in September, perfect to refresh grapes destined for early picking such as Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Gamay for sparkling and Pinot Gris and Chardonnay for whites. Unfortunately, the rain did not stop and there was some pressure to pick late ripening whites and early ripening reds before disease set in. Gamay, Pinot Noir, Riesling and Merlot had to be sorted in the vineyard and again on sorting tables in the winery to ensure only pristine bunches were kept. The rain finally subsided in late October so late-ripening varieties such as Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon were harvested in pristine condition. Overall yields were low with intense ripeness in most varieties. Early picked whites are crisp and full of flavour while later picked reds are full-bodied with ripe tannins. Wines will be drinking well on release or can cellar for the medium term.

Respect your burger… serve it with Burger Blend!

2018 White Palette

Perfumed & flavourful yet balanced, with bright, youthful acidity and freshness.

$15.95

AVAILABLE AT THE LCBO

TASTING NOTES

At the core of this wine, Riesling provides bright, refreshing acidity and pristine floral and citrus notes, while Pinot Gris adds richness, Sauvignon Blanc adds freshness and Gewurztraminer exotic fruit and spice notes. The result is a wine that is both perfumed and flavourful yet balanced, with bright, youthful acidity and freshness.

Enjoy on its own, lightly chilled, as the perfect aperitif for friends and family on weekend visits or after a hard day’s work when the summertime sun calls for a flavourful, thirst- quenching and juicy white. Will pair well with steamed shellfish and mollusks, composed salads, fish and chips, Asian-inspired summer dishes and fresh or mild cheeses.

WINEMAKING NOTES

Each variety was harvested separately between mid-September and early October. They were then crushed and de-stemmed before pressing into individual stainless steel tanks where they underwent cool, controlled fermentations. Temperature control is vital as it preserves the all-important primary fruit character. Malolactic fermentation is prevented, again to preserve the lovely acidity and after ageing in tank, the final blend was assembled. It remained in stainless steel for several months to integrate and develop additional complexity and was bottled in the spring of 2018.
