2015 13th Street Vineyard Riesling

A fruity aroma with peach and floral notes plus hints of mineral and subtle spice.

$23.95

  • TASTING NOTES

This fully dry Riesling has a fruity aroma with peach and floral notes plus hints of mineral and subtle spice. Dry with medium plus acidity and lovely freshness, it is medium-bodied with great length. Will certainly reward medium-term cellaring with added complexity and softer acid. With food, take advantage of the vibrant acidity and serve it alongside dishes with high acidity to match or with richer dishes as a refreshing counterpoint. Salads, fish, shellfish, fatty pork, smoked foods or fresh tangy cheeses will all fare well here.

WINEMAKING NOTES

This Riesling was hand-picked in late October entirely from the old vines at the 13th Street Vineyard, planted in the late 1970s and early 1980s. After manual sorting to select only exceptionally sound and ripe fruit, whole bunches were pressed slowly after some skin contact in the press. The juice was moved to stainless steel tanks where fermentation took place. Once fermentation was complete, the wines were moved to temperature controlled steel tanks where they remained on the fine lees in order to develop additional weight and richness. They were kept at cool temperatures, in order to prevent malolactic fermentation, for several months during which time they were racked periodically. The wine was bottled in May 2016.

2016 Essence Riesling

Complex on the nose with aromas of fresh tangerine and candied lime with a touch of spice from the oak.

$34.95

  • TASTING NOTES

Golden straw in the glass, our Essence Riesling 2016 is complex on the nose with aromas of fresh tangerine and candied lime with a touch of spice from the oak. On the palate, it is rich yet dry, with refreshing acidity and a touch of oak-based tannin. The finish is extremely long with complex and savoury notes of tropical fruit and spice.

Enjoy now with scallops and lime beurre blanc or simply pour a glass and enjoy the complexities of the wine! Will also further develop nuances with short to medium term aging.

WINEMAKING NOTES

Our Essence line of wines are winemaker JP Colas’ expression of vineyard and vintage and for his first Essence Riesling he selected fruit from our very oldest Riesling vines at the 13th Street Vineyard. The fruit was harvest by hand in late October and was then whole cluster pressed into two seasoned 500L French oak casks for fermentation and aging. JP’s objective was to add both structure and texture to the delicate Riesling without overwhelming with oak aromas and flavours. The wine was fermented totally dry but the tannins from the oak give a full impression on the palate. Following one year in the oak casks, the wine was transferred to a 1000L stainless steel tank for resting until the wine was bottled in April 2018 following light fining and filtration.

2017 Burger Blend Riesling / Pinot Grigio

A fruity, light and crisp white wine with a touch of spice.

$14.95

Available at the LCBO

TASTING & FOOD NOTES

For us, “burgers” evoke memories of backyard barbeques, of sunshine and warm evenings, of good food and laughter with friends and family. The goal of this wine was to produce a fruit-laden and refreshing white that represents excellent value and one that would bring out the best in your burger. A challenging task since the perfect burger can be a very personal and unique creation. Consider the traditional elements: the acidity of pickle, the sweetness of relish and ketchup and the spice of BBQ sauce and mustard. Our final combination for Burger Blend Riesling Pinot Grigio is a fruity, light and crisp white wine with a touch of spice and a juicy finish that can be enjoyed alone or with your favourite summer backyard fare, burgers most certainly included! Respect your burger… serve it with Burger Blend!

WINEMAKING NOTES

The original 13th Street Burger Blend was produced in the late 90’s and was an eclectic mix of a wine which incorporated pretty much every red variety in the wineries stables. Since not all burger eaters crave a glass of red, we are pleased to announce that we’ve created a white blend specifically for pairing with burgers and burger-friendly occasions! Both varieties were fermented and aged in stainless steel to preserve the fresh fruit flavours and acidity that are so important to this blend!

VINTAGE NOTES

The winter of 2016/2017 was again mild, yet a cool spring delayed bud-burst. Once the summer finally started it was relatively cool and rainy. Luckily September saw full sun and heat warm the vines to complete phenolic ripeness. Harvest started late in mid-September, commencing with Pinot and Chardonnay for sparkling and continued with other whites and early-ripening reds. The beautiful weather lasted well into the fall, allowing for long hang time for later ripening varieties. Overall yields were moderate to high with very high quality throughout. The wines are characterized by both freshness and structure across the portfolio, with potential for enjoyable early consumption or the opportunity to cellar wines for the medium-to-long-term.

Respect your burger… serve it with Burger Blend!

2017 White Palette

A flavourful blend of Riesling, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc & Gewurztraminer.

$15.95

AVAILABLE AT THE LCBO

TASTING NOTES

At the core of this wine, Riesling provides bright, refreshing acidity and pristine floral and citrus notes, while Pinot Gris adds richness, Sauvignon Blanc adds freshness and Gewurztraminer exotic fruit and spice notes. The result is a wine that is both perfumed and flavourful yet balanced, with bright, youthful acidity and freshness.

Enjoy on its own, lightly chilled, as the perfect aperitif for friends and family on weekend visits or after a hard day’s work when the summertime sun calls for a flavourful, thirst- quenching and juicy white. Will pair well with steamed shellfish and mollusks, composed salads, fish and chips, Asian-inspired summer dishes and fresh or mild cheeses.

WINEMAKING NOTES

Each variety was harvested separately between mid-September and early October. They were then crushed and de-stemmed before pressing into individual stainless steel tanks where they underwent cool, controlled fermentations. Temperature control is vital as it preserves the all-important primary fruit character. Malolactic fermentation is prevented, again to preserve the lovely acidity and after ageing in tank, the final blend was assembled. It remained in stainless steel for several months to integrate and develop additional complexity and was bottled in the spring of 2018.

2018 Pinot Gris

Vibrant with aromas of green pear, nectarine, lemon and honeydew melon. On the palate it is fresh and lively with medium acidity.

$19.95

TASTING NOTES

Our Pinot Gris 2018 is vibrant with aromas of green pear, nectarine, lemon and honeydew melon. On the palate it is fresh and lively with medium acidity and flavours of lemon and nectarine. The finish is crisp with a touch of minerality.

Enjoy over the next 3 years with white fish poached or baked with lemon butter, simple chicken dishes, creamy fresh cheeses, green vegetable or herb risotto or sweet garlic pork sausages.

WINEMAKING NOTES

This Pinot Gris was sourced exclusively from our own vineyard located at the corner of Fourth Avenue and Seventh Street in the Creek Shores sub-appellation. Harvest was in early-to-mid September. Hand-picked, the grapes were crushed and destemmed before gentle pressing. The grapes were then fermented and aged in stainless steel with fine lees to provide added richness and creamy mouthfeel.

VINTAGE NOTES

The winter of 2017/2018 was again mild, with an especially warm February, but a cool April with some snow and ice pushed bud-burst back for an average start to the growing season. Once the summer finally started it was hot and humid, with prolonged periods of extreme heat. Luckily rain started in September, perfect to refresh grapes destined for early picking such as Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Gamay for sparkling and Pinot Gris and Chardonnay for whites. Unfortunately, the rain did not stop and there was some pressure to pick late ripening whites and early ripening reds before disease set in. Gamay, Pinot Noir, Riesling and Merlot had to be sorted in the vineyard and again on sorting tables in the winery to ensure only pristine bunches were kept. The rain finally subsided in late October so late-ripening varieties such as Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon were harvested in pristine condition. Overall yields were low with intense ripeness in most varieties. Early picked whites are crisp and full of flavour while later picked reds are full-bodied with ripe tannins. Wines will be drinking well on release or can cellar for the medium term.
