2019 Whitty Vineyard Gamay

$24.95

TASTING NOTES

Bright ruby in the glass with intense and complex aromas of black cherries and smoke with a touch of minerality. On the palate it is rich yet refreshing with juicy acidity, supporting tannins and delicious notes of sour cherry jam and black pepper. The finish is long and savoury with drying tannins.

Enjoy now with classic roast chicken and mushrooms, wild game birds, charcuterie or a wide variety of cheese. Will also reward short-to-medium term  cellaring.

WINEMAKING NOTES

Harvested in late September from our Whitty Vineyard in Creek Shores, the grapes were in nearly pristine condition so minimal sorting was required. The grapes were immediately crushed and destemmed and fermented in open top stainless steel tanks with regular punching down to extract colour and structure. After malolactic fermentation, the wine remained in stainless steel tanks until it was lightly fined and filtered prior to bottling in June 2020.

Reviews

92 Points -- John Szabo, MS -- WineAlign

“The Whitty vineyard gamay from 13th Street is a little more reserved and withdrawn than their 'entry' gamay, also more reductive and peppery, but in a reasoned and attractive way. The palate is lovely and succulent, with very fine tannins and marked salinity, the kind that makes you want to drink again and again, so saliva-inducing. The texture is seamless and flavour intensity is high, and length is also excellent in the category. Top notch. Tasted October 2020.”

91 Points -- Michael Godel -- WineAlign

“This is gamay meeting at the triple-edged vortex where funk, fruit and expression want to be. Disco lemonade, double cherry pie, sex and candy. An excellent cocktail with gamay at its core, a Creek Shore speciality that gives and then gives some more. Marcy Playground gamay, “like disco superfly.” Drink 2020-2026. Tasted October 2020.”

91 Points -- David Lawrason -- WineAlign

“This has a very pleasant floral, berry and lightly peppery nose. It is light weight, supple, juicy and quite refined, with fine earthiness on the finish. Light tannin. Very good to excellent length. Tasted October 2020”
